Exmouth Marina Moon

I am pleased to present my first large canvas for a little while. Exmouth Marina Moon is 60" x 40" - various paints and texturing medium on Winsor & Newton canvas.

After moving a lot of furniture I was able to overcome the problem of photographing it! Something I had not considered when we moved to the new property in Dorset.

I look forward to more work on this scale in the near future.

Maritime series

I would like to present two new works which are based on a maritime/coastal themes within which I am experimenting with my usual relief construction techniques with less  vertical/horizontal constraints.

Sir Terry Frost

Sir Terry Frost was elected Royal Academician 1992 and received a knighthood in 1998. He died on 1st September 2003 in St Ives.

Most of us may be familiar with his later work which uses shape, proportion and color to convey a sense of visual movement and feeling. However one must visit his early work within which we see some of the leading post war abstract work produced by any artist.

His work has been a great influence on me and along with Ben Nicholson I can say that discovering these artists prompted me to start creating my own artwork.

A busy January

I would like to thank all of those who kept me busy across January with some excellent commissions and the new customers who purchased my work from my website. Having now completed all the commission work I am happy to present three pieces here which will list in my eBay shop after 8.30pm this evening.

I now have a clear run at new works which I shall be posting up over the next few weeks as I complete them  as well as new features on a few of my favourite artists. Thank you again - Richard.

New work for 2012

I hope everyone enjoyed a great Xmas/New Year and the wonderful mild weather for this time of year.

I am currently exploring a style of work which I ended 2011 with and I am pleased to present some new work to commence my 2012 portfolio.

Gone Urban

After a very successful year and having created a number of works inspired by the coast and nautical sources I have been winding down to Xmas by producing some more looser works based more on Urban inspiration.

Within these I have been experimenting with textures and over painting techniques with the objective of creating a new series of small works which will draw on these finishes and blend in some of the coastal and nautical shapes. I look forward to presenting these in the new year.

I would like to wish my all my customers and readers a wonderful Xmas and New Year and I look forward to a positive 2012.

Two new pieces

I am happy to feature two new pieces from the Exmouth Marina relief series.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my new and existing customers for making this year an excellent one which has spurred me on in the most positive ways.

This year I have enjoyed fulfilling a significant number of commissions for customers which have kept me busy and has allowed me to recommence producing large canvas work alongside my smaller framed work.

A little premature however time is moving on rapidly so I would like to wish you all an excellent Xmas and New Year period as well as a wonderful 2012.

New work added

I am happy to have listed two new reliefs -Studland Low and High Tide - unfortunately the images do not show the distinction between the blues used as they are visibly different in real life and used to create a contrast in the sky colours at the two tide times I took as reference for the pieces.

I have used sand collected from the Studland beach as the medium for thickening the paint and creating the surface textures shown in the close up image.

New Studland relief

Having been a little busy completing a number of commissions I have sadly neglected the blog and not featured new work for sometime.
